Gifted Education

TAG

Gifted education programs are outlined in the Regulations Governing Educational Services for Gifted Students (
http://www.doe.virginia.gov/instruction/gifted_ed/ed_services_plans/understanding_the_regs.pdf) .

Prince Edward County Public Schools identifies gifted students in grades K-12 and provides appropriately differentiated curriculum and instruction. Such curriculum and instruction are offered continuously and sequentially, supporting the gifted students’ needs for increasing levels of complexity. Prince Edward County Public Schools provides the following enrichment opportunities to identified gifted students:

  • Advanced content and pacing of instruction
  • Original research or production
  • Problem finding and solving
  • Higher level thinking that leads to the generation of products
  • A focus on issues, themes, and ideas within and across content areas of study

Referrals for the gifted program may be made by parents, teachers, and other staff members. Referral packets are available at each school. Upon receipt of the referral packet, an evaluation will be conducted and an eligibility meeting will take place to determine whether a student meets the eligibility criteria for gifted services. Once an eligibility decision is made, the parents are notified in writing.

Please contact the Office of Exceptional Programs if you have questions about Gifted Education.
