Weather Info

December 14, 2017

Dear Parents and Guardians:
On behalf of the Prince Edward County Public School Division, I wish you and your families a peaceful and prosperous holiday season. As we approach 2018, we begin to reflect upon the year past and prepare for the new seasons and opportunities. We also begin to monitor our weather trends very carefully as winter weather can be unpredictable and sometimes hazardous; and, although the weekend’s snow was beautiful, it is only with preparation that we can enjoy such days.
Thus, please note the following information regarding school delays and closures due to inclement weather:
· After an assessment of the county road conditions by designated personnel, the superintendent will decide the status of school delays and/or closings. Please note that, although the roads may be in good condition in your neighborhood, we must consider all of the roads on which our buses travel throughout the county. The safety of all of our children and staff members is the priority.
· Generally, information regarding delays and closures will be shared by 5:30 a.m., and no later than 6:30 a.m. In the case of early dismissal due to worsening weather conditions, information will be shared by 11:30 a.m. Designated personnel will contact the following communication outlets to ensure accurate and timely reporting regarding the school status:
o Prince Edward County Public Schools website (http://www.pecps.k12.va.us)
o Prince Edward County Public Schools Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/PECPS/), Twitter (https://twitter.com/PrinceEdwardSch), and Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/princeedw...)
o Prince Edward County Public Schools Messenger
o Radio Stations: WFLO, 95.7 FM | WXJK, 101.3 FM | WVHL, 92.9 FM | WBBC, 93.5 FM | WSVS (Crewe), 800 AM and 97.1 FM
o Television Stations: WWBT Channel 12 | WTVR Channel 6 | WRIC Channel 8 | WSET Channel 13
If schools are closed due to emergency weather conditions, all after-school and evening activities are cancelled.
As always, thank you for your continued support of our children, and, again, we look forward to a phenomenal year filled with student successes.
Respectfully,
Barbara A. Johnson, Ed. D.
Superintendent
